Review of The Basketball Diaries (1995) by Mike B — 16 Sep 2012
Leonardo dicaprio delivers an amazing performance his acting is equally good while he is playing a good boy, who gets along with his mother, cool guy - basketball player who moves like a cheetah and plays with style , newbie drug user hooked on the feeling of warmth going through the body, freeing the soul and mind of worries and guilt, and in the end an addict going through withdrawal pain, able to commit crime.
this might not be a fresh movie, as this topic has been explored multiple times on different intensities and scales such as drugstore cowboy, requiem for a dream etc. I think the fact that the plot is based on a true story, and that dicaprio delivers it so well that I believed each and every of his words, screams and yells of pain, that makes this movie worth watching.
