Review of The Basketball Diaries (1995) by Zina J — 15 Feb 2008
This is a truly remarkable film and it marked the first time I had ever seen Leonardo DiCaprio and also the first time I had ever seen Mark Wahlberg act (his acting is superior to his singing). The movie has everything from drug abuse, death, and pedophilia.
Even more remarkable is that it's true story. It follows a highly successful Basketball team who fall into drink, drugs and violence and ultimate destruction. It is a stark look into the life of a heroin user and has properly only ever been best portrayed in cult classic Trainspotting.
