Review of The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) by Richard D — 02 Apr 2011
The Barkleys of Broadway is an enjoyable piece of musical fluff although it runs a bit too long. Other than "You Can't Take That Away From Me" the music is not the most memorable and the shoe dance is a tad too gimmicky.
The plot is pretty standard musical fare, successful performing couple has a spat, splits, discover that they can't live without each other, kiss and make up. But despite the slightly mundane overall quality of the film, Astaire and Rogers dancing together is, as always, simply sublime.
And in colour non the less.
