Review of The Barefoot Contessa (1954) by Ed A — 04 Jun 2009
A couple of decent one liners amist a rambling script and a plot thats recurring theme seems to be 'Does money and succes equate to happiness?'. I actually warmed to the film towards the end. I found it haunting as you knew it would end in tragedy because of the way it was told in flashback.
Bogey worked well within his paramiters here. A lot of the acting seems a little melodramatic compared to todays standards, and also I have to say that I didn't find Ava Gardner either staggeringly beautiful or particularly talented as an actress.
Wouldn't rush to watch it again.
