Review of The Barefoot Contessa (1954) by Jeff B — 08 Jan 2009
I saw this one in the theater the other day, it stars Ava Gardner as the title character who is discovered by director Humphrey Bogart and the rest of his buddies while they're visiting Spain. It's told in flashbacks while the characters in the film are attending Gardner's funeral.
The film takes its time to reveal how Gardner died, but it does a nice job of doing it. I loved the way the different characters came into her life, I especially loved the scene at the dinner party where Gardner is eating with all of the rich and important people.
Edmond O'Brien give a great Oscar winning performance as the guy in charge of public relations, I wish he was in the film more, his final scenes with Gardner are great. It's got a very good ending.
And man, Gardner was very hot in this. Nice score.
