Review of The Bang Bang Club (2011) by Stuff Y — 18 May 2012
The Film was good, don't get me wrong, but as a person who felted touched by every moment of the book, I was disappointed. With every book to film adaptation a lot of the book get left untouched, but I felt that too much of this was left untouched.
Some of the scenes were so accurate and fantastically shot which made me very very pleased. Other times though I felt the film rushed large periods of time along in a matter of 1 or 2 cuts, which I felt didn't allow myself as an audience member to connect with the characters as I did when I read the book.
I don't want to go into a great amount of detail because I could spend hours picking apart the moving comparing it to the book, but long story short, for anyone who hasn't read the book of doesn't know the story that well it is a very good film.
For those who did thoroughly enjoy the book and/or know the story very well it may not be the best depiction of what your hoping for. The cast did a great job though, and for that I was willing to give the film a 70, I was not to fond of the directing though.
