Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Cathy N — 20 Mar 2008
This story about an Egyptian police band that suddenly finds itself in an Israeli backwater could have been played for farce or as a didactic call for tolerance. Instead, it's a perfect blend of whimsy, alienation, and an exploration of the spaces that bring people together as well as separate them.
Features several well-drawn characters that transcend simple stereotypes.
