Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Kevin M — 24 Mar 2008
A charming, very humourous movie about loneliness & communication.
Story is about a small Egyptian Police band, for various reasons, got lost in a desolated little town in Israel. But lucky enough, they are welcomed & offered food & shelter by a group of warm-hearted Israelis. And the whole movie is about the encounter between the two races in this strange setting.
It's a movie about loneliness - all by yourself to face everything. Loneliness could be a result of bad luck. Well, that's exactly what the band is going through. But sometimes, loneliness can be self-found - so don't blame on circumstances. So often, help is just around the corner - if you are ready to open your heart to accept the offer. Just let go of your preconceptions, your pride, your guard, etc etc, and let others in. The world could be so much more helpful & sympathetic than your own polarized cold-hearted version.
So, always remember :stay open-minded. There could be pleasant surprises - if you are willing to see.
