Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Rachel T — 25 Mar 2008
Humorous and sweet. Similarities and differences between races, culture, language, generation, gender, ages,... make up plots of simple stories. Delightful men stories of different ages even in different cultures - issues with different gender (youths dating, urging for calls from love ones, dreams changed after marriage, father-son problem) and among males (competition, strive to perform, team management).
Sweet to see way out when perspective changed (the inspiring baby music to the unfinished concerto composition, successful dating with the gloomy cousin, heart-opening sharing of the band leader, the projected solution of father-son problem through the acceptance of the young violinist).
The main actress is nice, lovely, charming, understanding, strong, mature,...seems to project an ideal female image (from men's perspective, perhaps) contrasting women in reality (the fragile wife of the band leader, the wife of the nice unemployed Israelite, and the young gloomy cousin).
The final excellent performance is the great cheer of the movie, which temporary left life problems behind.
