Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Kai B — 02 Apr 2008
I was surprised by how little Egyptian-Israeli conflict was in this movie: it could just as easily as been about any band visiting any country that speaks a different language.
But perhaps that was the point, to focus on universal aspects of the human experience, like father-son-like relationships, or loneliness and isolation, the difficulty teenage boys have interacting with girls, or the stress that unemployment brings to a family.
My favorite scenes were in the roller rink.
