Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Bach P — 13 Sep 2008
This is certainly a quiet gem of a film that has flown under the radar. "The Band's Visit" is a bittersweet comedy about a police Egyptian band that gets stuck in a small Israeli town for an evening.
The town has no hotel, so the band has to disperse and stay with the local Israeli's. The film is composed of several little romantic stories, from a married couple's quarrel to a young man's plight.
The members of the band end up getting involved one by one sharing their own life's problems with their Israeli counterparts. The film elegantly shifts between the stories with ease and beautifully handles each and every detail down to the very end.
"The Band's Visit" is a honest comedy of life's quirks, many of which any of us could relate to no matter where your from.
