Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Eyal D — 18 Sep 2008
Irresistable and charming, Israeli entry THE BAND'S VISIT tries its whimsy by placing its characters in a neo-realist setting. A movie that aims to appeal rather than educate about the bond that exists between people that outwardly have nothing in common.
Just as it delves into its preciousness, it withdraws with a touch of honest poignancy. Solid casting, especially from leads Elkabetz & Gabai as the Israeli resto owner & Egyptian band leader who meet in a deserted nowhere town and realize that they are both somewhat lost in their own ways.
Fun and easy to digest, most particularly the forced English that must communicate with each other.
