Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Jesus G — 27 Sep 2008
One of the most beautiful movies about cultural contrasts I have experienced.
Hollywood, take note, you should stop pushing ideological and political views down our throats, force me to pick political candidates, etc and learn how to make movies like this. The real beauty of The Band's Visit is that no one is a bad person, no one is in the wrong side of beliefs, culture, etc. It paints a great portrait of humanity, showing how we are all the same and at the core, we can co-exist and even help each other.
There was not a single indication of religious beliefs from either side or a sing of conflict. Indeed, there was a subtle tension that makes you go: "I wonder how he felt", "Oh wow, how uncomfortable it must be" and after all you smile and cherish all of the characters.
The character Dina was the icebreaker throughout and her beauty and humanity is simply stunning. (It was a nice touch the sensual hint at her bare foot on the table).
Fantastic and perfectly executed movie.....sooooo subtle in its messages!
