Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Corey M — 12 Jan 2009
It was strange watching this, I'm used to that indie cliche of when a film follows someone for a day that their entire life will change. Instead we have interactions between two cultures that should be clashing but are more two ships passing in the night.
The small, stark look of the film along with the uniforms on the uniforms kind of peel away as it moves on. We expect for the race relations to be at the forefront of the movie and the character's mind but we slowly see that there is more they are worried about.
And that really is the movie, following a band of individuals through a strange situation that they will probably not forget; and we feel all the better for witnessing it.
