Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Generoso F — 27 Jan 2009
A charming film that carries itself in an entertaining way but one that I found skirted the edge of schmaltz a bit too often. It's aesthetics are similar to that of Aki Kaurusmaki's work, the same sharp moments of color in an otherwise bleak world, little conversations that reveal so much about the characters.
Nice performances and a very human film but one that has too many contrived moments for me to feel a real connection.
