Review of The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005) by Matt B — 18 Jun 2010
The Ballad of Jack and Rose was an experiment that failed.
Daniel-Day tried his best to save this slow and heavy film, but at the end of the day Writer-Director Rebecca Miller was way in over her head.
It does trouble the mind to see how a young girl would handle the stress of meeting boys for the first time, especially when she never went to school and hasn't learned much about anything to do with life. I mean at one point she kisses her own dad.
One of the problems you will catch right away is that there seems to be more music than dialogue here. The music was superb, and did capture the 60's setting Miller was going for, but at times it just seemed like she was showing beautiful landscapes with music to stretch the run time.
This was one of those movies that nobody would have watched had Lewis not been in it.
