Review of The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) by Frederick M — 13 Nov 2008
This is a great character study on a man of little education who happens upon something after being left for dead that will change his fortunes and make him a rich man. Fantastic job by Jason Robards as Hogue and by the supporting cast.
Pekinpah, not known for restraint, gives us probably his most modest and subdued film ever. Great story that hits just about all the right notes.
