Joel & Ethan Coen's latest film, an anthology film made for Netflix, is a patchwork of the legendary pair's screwball comedies mixed with the dramatic irony of their more serious films. Aside from the occasional outlandish humor of its more absurdist, overly violent touches and the fable-like moral underpinning of its more serious moments, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs lacks the cohesiveness, consistency and impact of their previous outings (Ã la 2016's Hail, Caesar!).
