As a kid I loved the American folk heroes; Paul Bunyun, Pecos Bill, John Henry. I think these stories aim to be akin to American folklore, music and all, but takes a diversion into the macabre which is a bit Burtonesque.
It is almost a delight to watch as The San Saba Songbird actually lifts into the sky with wings and floats off in the midst of a religious hymn accompanied by harp and sad continence. The Coen brothers never disappoint, my only argument is the lack of "color" in their productions.
