Review of The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977) by Zoran S — 13 Sep 2008
Watching the second Bad News Bears film today, one can see how America, despite some cultural gains, has turned further right in the last thirty years. Today, it doesn't seem likely that you could have a "family movie" made where kids smoke, use racial and homophobic slurs, and some are most likely having sex.
Sure, in this film the late 1970s are a fashion-disaster: way too tight shorts, those striped socks pulled all the way up, the Houston Astros's uniforms, etc. However, this is also pre-Regan revolution America, before puritanical mores about sex, family, and everything else about America became the norm.
