Review of The Bad Batch (2017) by Liberte R — 01 Jul 2017
I loved this movie!
It was horrific, violent, sweet and beautiful.... and it provokes thought.
You will be unnerved.
You may be confused at times.
You will laugh out loud.
You will wince.
DO NOT watch the trailer instead go in blind with an open mind.
Have an experience, take a journey into another world.
The soundtrack is fantastic.
And although this is a bit of a spoiler, it must be noted since I haven't seen anyone make mention of the fact that there is no gratuitous rape. I know, it seems like it's not a big deal but it is. When I saw the film I kept bracing myself for the inevitable assault on women that's typical even my Sweetie said the same. That's only part of what's compelling about this directors eye, her perspective is so fresh it's like tasting a new flavor you never knew you loved. The lack of sexual violence twords women served to illustrate how expected it is. We were both stunned there was not one rape scene, how messed up is that!
I'm thankful to recognize in myself the proclivity to expect and accept the common, indoctrinated way of seeing women as objects to exploit in very specific ways.
Allow yourself to immerse into this BAD BATCH world where at the very least you'll escape our current whack reality for a couple hours, at the most... parts of your brain will ignite fires to stoke expansive thought. Doesn't that sound nice?
