Review of The Back-Up Plan (2010) by ♥Robyn — 30 Mar 2011
Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) is having a hard time finding Mr. Right and has to contend with a biological clock that is ticking. Basically, Zoe had a traumatic childhood and at a young age witnessed her mother die from cancer and her father abandoning her because he couldn't take the responsibility. Consequently, our heroine doesn't believe that she can hook up with a guy and keep him. Despite all the warnings that her best friend, Mona (Michaela Watkins) gives her about the trials and tribulations of motherhood, Zoe remains adamant about having kids. No sooner has she resorted to artificial insemination to get a jump-start on having a family on her own she collides with Mr. Right while hailing a cab. Alex O'Loughlin is charming, sweet, and romantic - this virile Aussie heartthrob parades around without a shirt no wonder Zoe finds it hard to resist him. Cute, lighthearted fun but that is what chick-flicks are all about and yes, it is sort of predictable.
J-lo as looks hot with those high heels even though she plays the role of a mommy-to-be in almost half of the movie and Alex O'Loughlin is a hunk.
My one dislike: There was one scene where the support group for single moms meets and one of them gives birth in a tub. Childbirth is supposed to be a wonderful magical thing, but this one looked like a scene out of a horror movie. It was very scary.
