Review of The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947) by Leah C — 21 Nov 2007
This was a great film. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy are great together and the screenplay is amazing. I absolutely loved seeing Cary Grant compete with the assistant D.A. in the athletic games at the picnic. Another plus are the two different scenes in which Shirley Temple and then Myrna Loy envision Cary as a knight in armor is funny. His facial expressions when he gets arrested after infatuated Shirley Temple sneaks into his apartment are hilarious and remind you of why Cary Grant was such a good actor. (If you truly want to get a feel for his range as an actor, watch Arsenic and Old Lace and after that, Notorious). Sidney Sheldon's screenplay is amazing. It is funny because it's realistic, like the scene in which both Myrna and Shirley come home and slam doors and then the two guys who like them also slam the front door as they go in and out. It's a Cary Grant must see! I also love the nonsensical:
Richard Nugent: "Hey, you remind me of a man.".
Susan Turner: "What man?".
Richard Nugent: "Man with the power.".
Susan Turner: "What power?".
Richard Nugent: "Power of hoodoo.".
Susan Turner: "Hoodoo?".
Richard Nugent: "You do.".
Susan Turner: "Do what?".
Richard Nugent: "Remind me of a man...".
