Review of The Bachelor (1999) by Magic G — 01 May 2009
Pretty bad overall. The image of a thousand manic brides stampeding through the streets of San Fran is pretty cool, but this - and the central "Brewster's Millions" conceit would have worked better in an all-out cynical slapstick broad OTT comedy - but this film inelegantly tries to wrench them into a touchy-feely-schmaltzy middle-of-the-road tale.
This isn't helped by the fact that O'Donnell (who can do the earnest good-boy schtick better than anyone) is utterly unconvicing as a wild "Mustang" who doesn't wanna be tied down.
His blandness is equalled by Zellwegger's - but she not as affected as usual here. Film is saved by some classic supporting turns by crusty crestibules and some great locations.
