Review of The Babysitters (2008) by Alyssa N — 16 Jun 2010
Better than it had any right to be, by which I mean it kept me hooked and still gave me some things to think about instead of just being the trashy, mindless film I was mistakenly expecting. Oh, it's by no means a high-quality movie, and it requires an almost superhuman ability to suspend your disbelief.
But what starts off as a comic, light-hearted look at teen prostitution enters some pretty dark territory and becomes a rather evocative and depressing coming of age story. This is fantasy mixed with reality, and by the end of it, you'll definitely be feeling more guilt than pleasure, but I don't think that's a bad thing.
Movies should make you feel things besides the obvious.
