Review of The Babadook (2014) by Late R — 21 Oct 2017
Apart from being one of the most effective arguments for contraception that I have ever seen, 'The Babadook' manages to avoid a lot of clichés and really shines by very effectively merging the story of a struggling single mother with a tale of horror full of symbolism.
That doesn't take away from just how clever the scares are, though -- by making full use of the phrase "less is more", the film creates a huge amount of tension by allowing the audience's imagination to do most of the work.
The result is a tense, satisfying and unique horror flick with a surprisingly deep message and an interesting ending.
