I read alot of reviews on this site before watching this movie. In short, it was well worth it.

This is a movie that demands attention, not because of complexity, but because of subtlety. The Awakening is a competent, lean, and interesting 'horror flick'. It may not provide many jumps or gasps, but instead it provides a series of 'chills' that lead escalate in intensity.

I was concerned midway through the movie that it was losing focus. I was wrong, it actually contributed to the overall picture.

Don't watch this movie if you are expecting tons of shock scares involving gore or terror. This movie provides a thoughtful examination into the mind of a skeptic, amidst a time where most of society was reeling from the trauma of World War 1. Its a wonderfully atmospheric, chilling tale that leads to solid conclusion.
