Review of The Awakening (2010) by Luke W — 20 Jun 2012
Although it's not as scary as expected, "Awakening" still has everything a decent horror movie should have. It's "creepy enough" to be considered a horror, and still delivers quite an interesting plot (which is rare considering the latest productions of the genre).
The performance of the cast, most notably Staunton and Hall, also deserves a praise. My only complaint would be the slightly melodramatic turn of events towards the end of the movie, which seems to be rushed and not really necessary.
There are many subplots underdeveloped, such as the romantic relationship between the two main characters or Mallory's interaction with his own ghosts. Despite these flaws "Awakening" is a movie worth recommending, due to its interesting but not that complicated plot and an unexpected ending.
