Review of The Aviator (2004) by Tim S — 30 Mar 2012
A virtually straight-forward semi bio-pic. You wouldn't think that it was a Martin Scorsese film just from the sheer pace of it, but it is literally painted with his style. I love the performances, the costumes, the color schemes.
..everything. I also love the fact that Scorsese opted to use models of planes rather than just go to town with CGI. Now, there is some CGI in this film, but it's used as a storytelling tool, not an excuse, which is when it works best.
It's one of DiCaprio's finest performances and one of Scorsese's best films. A masterpiece.
