Review of The Aviator (2004) by Kelley B — 05 Jun 2012
The Aviator is a pure example of great film making, and Martin Scorsese could only make a film this intense with such a great character study. Howard Hughes was a very complicated man, and Scorsese has given a top notch script and incredible actor to play him.
This is a man who wishes to be perfect and who hates germs, hates society, and maybe even hates himself. But what he loves is planes and its truly our remarkable thing watching a man go insane but still have such a passion for something as simple as planes.
Scorsese really shows this man at his low point, and that is one of the genius things behind the script. Leonardo DiCaorio deserved his Oscar for this, mainly because this character goes downhill and DiCaprio almost embodies this character in the sens that he seems like he could be Hughes.
Cate Blanchett was remarkable, she plays every scene with such surefullness and that is something you never see, such a calm actress that is proud to be acting and just gets lost in her character. The Aviator has a very well done script and great cast, and it makes it one of my favorite Scorsese films.
