Review of The Aviator (2004) by Mloy X — 28 Sep 2012
"[flying Howard's plane] Howard, there's a rather alarming mountain heading our way.".
--- Katharine Hepburn (played by Cate Blanchett).
This was a reallly well done and well-acted film. The cast was simply superb, made up of some of the best character actors like the ubber talented John C. Reilly (Noah Dietrich) and Ian Holm ( Professor Fitz), but as great a Leonardo DiCaprio was in the lead role as Howard Hughes, I still thought he seemed a little too young for the part and more obviously so paired with always talented Cate Blanchett (Katharine Hepburn), Gwen Stephanie (Jean Harlow) or even a fresh-faced Kate Beckinsale (Ava Gardner). It's also kind of strange seeing Cate Blanchett play the legendary Katy Hepburn, who is one of my favorite actresses of all time, it's a little weird. But she did a good job, odd but good. The story was good and the film made a seemingly selfish and brutish person like Hughes seem more sympathetic and lovable. Mr. Hughes was an interesting person, so much so I'd love to learn more about him beyond what the movie covers.
