Review of The Aviator (2004) by Aaron K — 15 Oct 2014
The Aviator is Leonardo DiCaprio's movie. Without knowing anything about this biopic's main character, Howard Hughes, it seems like Scorsese told Leo to just 'act,' and there we have our three hour film.
Leo's performance is quite exceptional and everything you'd expect it to be, which is important as he is the only deep character you are given for the entire film. This makes the movie really feel like a classic biopic.
While Howard's mental degradation becomes a rather interesting main plot, too few details and too little back story are given to justify it's run time, and so I found the movie dragged in the middle.
Other than this dragging, the movie pulls a very interesting and engaging story out of the airplane mogul's life, which the DiCaprio/Scorsese duo turns into a must watch for all fans of their previous work.
