Review of The Aviator (2004) by Margarita S — 16 Oct 2014
This movie looked good and was well acted (all sheen), but it lacked substance. Oh, and did it drag! We never truly get a sense of how Hughes developed his love of aviation nor an understanding of his OCD รข?? why it was a part of him and what triggered its worsening.
I would have preferred a movie that dug deeper than one that came across as close to 3 hours of paparazzi storytelling. The book ended Hughes-as-a-child moments felt out of place with the rest of the movie's direction and a cheap, fleeting attempt at giving us some understanding into his character.
