Review of The Aviator (2004) by Fabian G — 09 Apr 2011
Last night I just finished up Martin Scorsese's biopic about the life of one of the greatest pilots in history, Howard Hughes.
Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a germaphobic, risk-taking, filmmaker/aviator/playboy who plans to make the best movies, fly the fastest planes and be the richest person in the world. The movie follows Hughes on his escapades with controversial films, expensive planes and his relationships with women like Katharine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett).
Firstly, the movie is quite good. As evocative as it is interesting, it shows you a man who literally changed the face of aviation while tackling other struggles that turn him into a nervous wreck.
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my favorite actors, and he he does a fine job playing the role. He brings the much needed sympathy that otherwise wouldn't've worked for other actors.
Other actors, Cate Blanchett, Alan Alda, John C. Reilly & Alec Baldwin did a good job too.
Overall, Scorsese directs an awesome picture, DiCaprio acts in it well. And this enthralling picture will have many film fans wanting to stand up and cheer at the end.
FINAL VERDICT: 81%.
