Review of The Avengers (1998) by Troy F — 11 May 2012
The Avengers has a good cast, but man does this film fall flat! It's not quite a terrible film, watchable at least, but I feel it could've at least potentially been a passable to okay film but it's hindered by the questionable fate that many have wondered about this film: the fact the studio cut off 30 min from this movie after test screenings, which resulted in the film's many plot holes and continuity errors.
Would the extra footage made a great difference? Possibly, but we'll never know, but for what we've got here, this film is flawed plot wise. Aside from that, the film still has errors that couldn't be fixed, such as the confusing dialogue, dull characters, and flat humor.
The action is average, but probably the only small bright spot in this film, but even that isn't all so salvageable and couldn't save this film. If this film wants to change my mind... bring out the original cut, but the theatrical cut we've got.
.. a weak spy action flick.
