Review of The Atomic Cafe (1982) by Ray J — 18 Sep 2009
Scary and funny at the same time, The Atomic Cafe lays bare the paranoia, naivete and moral absolutism that defined the start of the Cold War. Military footage of atomic blasts and well-meaning but hopelessly misinformed Civil Defense instructional films on how to survive a nuclear holocaust give the viewer a taste of how innocent and truly dangerous a time it was.
Interesting how many clergymen are featured giving their blessing to the development of new and better H-Bombs, and how jarred peaches may save your life.
