Review of The Astronaut Farmer (2007) by Erno K — 30 Dec 2010
Who needs astronauts when any dude can just build a rocket and fly into outer space?
You can't make a movie any more Disney than this. There is no realism here whatsoever. When a man has a dream, he has to go for it, no matter how much shit he causes to others. Cue inspirational music. This film teaches everyone to do whatever they want, even if their desire is incredibly stupid.
This Farmer dude has the most patient wife in movie history. He just builds his rocket and accumulates debt, and all the while his wife takes care of everything and smiles, as the foreclosure of their farm approaches. I'm sorry, but this is way too unbelievable to me. Real life just doesn't work that way. And why the fuck his own wife keeps calling him Farmer?
This movie is simply too stupid. The wooden farm doesn't burn when a rocket is launched out of it, and the government guys just smile when they detect an unidentified launch into the atmosphere. Sure. "Ah, it's just that lovable farmer. Gosh darn he did it.".
If only the world worked like this. We would all live in a utopia.
