Review of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) by Stephen M — 02 Sep 2010
Terrific movie. Always nice to really love something when you weren't expecting it. Casey Affleck moves nearer and nearer to the top of my favorite actor list; he is just fantastic here.
Pitt, ever-diverse, is great as usual although this role is certainly no stretch for him. Impressive list of actors round out the rather large feature-cast.
It's certainly long, moves fairly slowly, but at no point did I ever wish it would end; I enjoyed the pace, and the process of reaching a foregone conclusion. I'm no expert filmmaker, but it seems to me that it required a great deal of skill on everyone's part to keep interest that high when the very title gives the film's major happening away. Definitely one to make a night of.
