Review of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) by Quentin C — 10 Feb 2011
Watching it the first time I didn't know what I had in front of me, the second time I couldn't deny I was maybe watching the best American film of the 2000's.
I don't think I've ever seen a film that was as realistic in its timing, it's pace, it mannerisms, etc. Both Pitt and Affleck were incredible with Affleck actually giving me chills with the affectations of his character. The cinematography is brilliant to say the least, Deakins always is, and the score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis is a haunting one one that nuances the film in a way that makes it linger in the mind.
Hard to put the rest into words. An incredible piece of filmmaking, an undeniable masterpiece.
