Review of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) by Gary M — 29 May 2012
A terrific movie, the ideal "thoughtful Western". It's basically a Terrence Malick movie not-by-Terrence Malick. Beautifully shot, beautifully acted, a solid story with purpose and point.
Many might prefer it to a Malick film because it's slightly less "pure poetry", with more dialogue, action and defined plot. Casey Affleck is exceptional and Brad Pitt the same, along with all the rest of the cast.
Wow...I just saw the box office figure below...if people really haven't seen this movie, they are missing out, tremendously. But then again, I didn't happen to see it at the theater. Buying it is better anyway because it's worth multiple viewings, unquestionably.
