One of the best of the genre since 'Unforgiven.' It's a slow burner with tons of atmosphere and lush country-side photography. The night shots are particularly sensational. Brad Pitt is not typically an actor thought of as frightening or overly intimidating, but he is downright scary in this movie.

And though Jesse commands the screen whenever the camera focuses on him, Casey Affleck's delicate, tortured performance stands right beside Pitt's.
