It's a tragedy more people haven't seen this film. Those expecting a classic Jesse James western will be thoroughly disappointed, or perhaps pleasantly surprised.

The most stunning feat of this film is its cinematography; It's been a year since I've seen it and I can still remember the colors and landscapes vividly. Every visual aspect of this film works cohesively to add to the chilling story that unfolds.

The acting is superb. Casey Affleck really shines in this one, and I think even Brad Pitt haters would have a hard time hating this performance in this. All of the characters have a subtle sadistic kick in them that really crawls under your skin as a viewer. The narrator of the film almost seems like a character as well, and the addition of some narration pays homage to the early stories of Jesse James that were read from pulp novels or told over the radio.

This is a must see, but don't see it expecting over the top action. It's understated; it's powerful; it's beautiful- perfect for a rainy day.
