Review of The Assassin (2015) by Natcha P — 14 Sep 2015
Strictly for the arthouse crowd. This is a wuxia with minimal fight scenes, that lets the audience do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to figuring out the plot and character connections. The breathtaking cinematography, precise and formal compositions, and even the audaciousness of shooting 4:3 Academy Ratio in today's day and age (only TWO SHOTS are in widescreen), all work beautifully together to give a unique cinematic experience - if you have the patience for it.
