Review of The Assassin (2015) by Kurtiss K — 15 Mar 2016
The Assassin is a film that had potential to be a lot more. While the scenery is beautifully fantastic, the accompanying cinematography doesn't quite do it justice. The story has potential to be quite interesting but I found it somewhat confusing, and elusive concentrating more on style and less on telling a standard story.
It almost felt as though you had to know things beforehand or that it was assumed that you had certain knowledge as many things weren't explained. The Assassin could have been so much better but I think it just doesn't push enough of the exploratory buttons needed to create a truly well told film and with a story as complex as the one portrayed here.
.. it was needed. Still, it's worth checking out and I think that upon future viewings more of the film will come together and result in a more enjoyable experience.
