Review of The Asphalt Jungle (1950) by Brett F — 14 Aug 2008
A classic film noir. While Sterling Hayden turns in a wooden performance as the "hooligan" hired for a jewelry store heist, strong performances by Louis Calhern as a wealthy crooked attorney and Sam Jaffe as the nebbishy but clever leader of the caper, make this film a good viewing.
Huston's direction is as strong as ever and a good script keeps the film moving. If you like noir, this one's for you. Recommended.
