Review of The Artist (2011) by Ruby H — 21 Oct 2012
The movie is stylish and the performances are flawless and so the film moves along nicely enough. Thematically it seems to be somewhere between Sunset Boulevard and All About Eve..but lacks the spikiness and grimness of either and though this is precisely what makes it such a crowd-pleasing affair, it is also the reason why it is so far from essential viewing.
Can somebody in the American Academy please wake up?
