Review of The Artist (2011) by Nick J — 20 Dec 2012
What a brilliant movie. It takes a lot of ambition to try to make a silent film in the modern age of 3D and 2+ hour movies, but this Academy Award Winning film succeeded at that task with flying colors.
The story is simple and transcends time, yet the twist at the end is extraordinarily simplistic yet simultaneously elegant. I completely understand that after the age of silent films, that this Hazanavicius/Weinstein Company masterpiece would be so greatly welcomed with accolades-galore (5 Academy Awards, 7 BAFTAs, 3 Golden Globes, and a SAG Award, among many others).
I highly recommend this film as it is an homage to the times that were and to the times that are.
