"The name's Miller. Peppy Miller!".

When I first read/saw all the hysteria surrounding this film, I couldn't figure what the deal was - granted I hadn't watched the damn thing but that's due to the fact my local cinema didn't show it. But still it didn't seem like a film i'd like or a film that could conjure up all the praise.

But after a year and remembering about the film last weekend I decided to buy the film and I now understand all the praise and wish I had gotten to see it on release. It tells a story of a star in the silent movie era that's movie career is coming to end because of the introduction of talking - just as a young female's career is setting off. The story is beautifully inter-woven both at the complete opposite direction in their careers. It's mesmerizing I couldn't stop watching despite what I expected and just keeps getting better. I couldn't believe how much I felt for 'George' you don't hear him say anything all film yet I felt sad for his downfall - the fire and the gun scenes in particular were brilliant.

I can also see why 'Jean Dujardin' got the Oscar for best actor his performance is absolutely brilliant and the rest are brilliant as well. The whole look of the film is great as well it has a clean, shine to it because of it being in black & white. I really got the feel that it was 1929 and the feel of cinema at the time.

I can fully understand why it got the 'Best Picture' at 'The Oscars' it really is a great film - thought it wouldn't have been my choice, still it deserves it 100%. The plot moves a great pace, its expertly acted occasionally funny and has great direction and writing. More or less perfect. Everything this film got it thoroughly deserves.
