Review of The Artist (2011) by James F — 30 Jan 2013
This is, as educational as it is a delight to watch, the film takes place within the switchover from silent movies to 'talkies' in the 1920s. I won't say that it is for everyone and probably not for the younger generation, but what it lacks in silence, it blossoms in emotion.
It's in black and white as all films were back then, but the dancing is great fun and the acting of the highest calibre. When you remove the sound of speech, your face and movements become your microphone, Bérénice Bejo, has crafted this to a fine degree, Jean Dujardin Is also very much up to the task.
