Review of The Artist (2011) by Trevor R — 09 Apr 2013
A genuinely charming tribute to Hollywood and the magic of film, with two great lead performances from Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo (although Uggie steals the show). Compared to the great silent films (regardless of era) "The Artist," certainly lacks originality, relying heavily on classic tropes, cliches, and in-jokes.
But that's sort of the point. It may be fluff, but it's sincere, joyous, entertaining fluff, full of wit and optimism. It's nice to see a movie like that every once in awhile.
